Californians really are interested in buying
Royal Enfield motorcycles; I know

New Royal Enfield motorcycles go on sale in California this year, for the first time since they were made in Britain. It's a huge step forward for Royal Enfield in the United States, where the California market is not only huge but often sets the style for the rest of the nation.

I saw the effects overnight, right here on this blog. According to Google Analytics, more Californians now read this blog than residents of any other state. That's incredible, considering that, until last year, Californians who wanted a new Royal Enfield were just out of luck.

Obviously, if even my modest efforts are getting "hits," there is tremendous interest in Royal Enfield motorcycles in California.

Royal Enfied USA currently lists seven California motorcycle businesses that it plans to appoint as dealers.

  1. Will you be paying these dealers a visit any time soon?

  2. I am one of those California people who hang out on this blog eagerly anticipating the sales okay from the smog department.

I was told last November to expect the smog issue to be settled and sales to begin in March or April. My calendar now says May and not a hint of what is happening.

Is it likely there are plenty of California ready bikes waiting for the delivery go ahead or once the smog process is complete a new round of waiting will begin??

  3. Will, I have been told that the hard part is done, the bikes have passed their tests and now it's just a matter of the state getting the paperwork done. Then sales will start. People probably are already getting in line to make deposits. Why not call your closest dealer-to-be and see how they intend to handle it once things start rolling? It couldn't hurt to let them know you're interested. Best of luck.

  4. I've already visited Rocket in San Diego. They had a lot of questions about my Royal Enfield and about how it handled when I rode it from Chicago. As of last month, they had 2 display models but said that they couldn't sell them yet.

  5. I have visited and/or spoken to a number of dealers in the Los Angeles/San Diego area. Some are taking deposits and some are not. I was last told that June or July is the expected time frame for bikes to be available for sale. Evidently while the final details of CARB approval take place, RE is getting California production rolling with each dealer to get 10-12 bikes for the "2010 season". That means 70-84 total for California. I wonder how many deposits are out there already?? My next step will be to test ride a G5 and C5 to see which fits me best since I am 6'3". Having already sat on them I think the G5 will be the choice. In any case, for now a test ride is the only ride available!
