Royal Enfield: More modern, more retro?

Johann Franz submitted to the Royal Enfield Yahoo message board this picture he says may be the new Royal Enfield to be unveiled in Germany in October.

Kevin Mahoney of Classic Motorworks says the motorcycle, dubbed the C-5, really is new (see the item below) mechanically and improved in quality but looks more "retro."

That certainly describes the image above, which Franz said is "floating around." Whether it is official or just wishful thinking, the image shows an attractive motorcycle, recognizably a Royal Enfield.

  3. Like a Vespa in that it has a classic appearance but modern mechanical bits. If this design is chosen, the really clever part would be that the appearance is actually MORE old-fashioned than the existing very old-fashioned look. The temptation would have been to "update" the looks. This is a step back in time from 1955 to 1949 or earlier, I would say.
